Tours Volley-Ball , or Tours VB for short , is a French volleyball club whose men play in the French first division ( Pro A ).

history

Tours VB is a relatively young volleyball club. It emerged from the Tours Étudiant Club in 1988 . After a few years in the lower leagues, the club was able to move up to the Nationale 1B (today Pro B), the second highest French league, in 1993. One year later they were champions of this class and were promoted to the national 1A (Pro A). However, it took a few years there to adjust to the high level of the league.

In 2000 Tours VB was in the final of the French Cup, but clearly had to admit defeat to the then best French club Paris Volley 3-0 . The cup final ended with the same result a year later. However, the final place enabled Tours VB to take part in the Champions League, as Paris Volley won the double. In 2002 this endeavor only ended in the quarterfinals against Iraklis Saloniki .

In 2003 Tours won its first national title. In the cup final they prevailed 3-1 against Poitiers . In 2004 they won their first championship title (final against AS Cannes ). In the Champions League they even reached the Final Four and finally took third place ahead of Iraklis Saloniki. The following year 2005 was the high point in the club's history: Tours won the French Cup, the Supercup and the Champions League. Only in the championship did they have to admit defeat to AS Cannes. In the final of the Champions League they met again against Iraklis Saloniki, who hosted the Final Four. The game ended 3: 1 (−21, 29, 17, 23). Tours had previously thrown VfB Friedrichshafen out of the competition in the semifinals . In 2007 the team reached a second place in the final of the Champions League against VfB Friedrichshafen.

National league and cup

Tours won its titles after the turn of the millennium. From 2003 to 2019 they became champions eight times and cup winners ten times. With the second cup victory there was also the first success in the Supercup, today there are four titles.

European Cup

The overall winner from 2005 played again in the Champions League in the 2006/07 season . In Group A, the French met the German representative evivo Düren , the Austrian team from Hypo Tirol Innsbruck , the multiple overall winner Lokomotive Belgorod ( Russia ) as well as Portol Drac Palma Mallorca ( Spain ) and OK Budućnost Podgorica ( Montenegro ).
