history

The 2016 team during training

The club was founded in 2001 in Bastia Umbra and first played in Serie C. In the first season Perugia missed promotion in the playoffs. A year later, Perugia qualified for the B2 series. After fifth place in 2003/04, the next promotion to the B1 series was achieved in 2005. There the team initially finished fifth. The following season, Sir Safety was defeated in the playoffs. After another fifth place in 2007/08, Perugia reached the playoffs again a year later. In 2010 he was finally promoted to the A2 series. In the same year the association, whose main sponsor is a security technology company , moved to Perugia. The team finished the first season in the second division in 13th place, in the playdown games they managed to stay up. Subsequently, the Serb Slobodan Kovač was committed as a new coach. Under his direction, Perugia played so successfully in the 2011/12 season that the team made it to Serie A1. There, the team around captain Goran Vujević reached in the 2012/13 season as sixth in the table directly to the quarter-finals of the playoffs. In the Italian Cup competition, Perugia also reached the quarter-finals. The club then signed another Serb, Aleksandar Atanasijević . The 2013/14 season was the most successful so far. Sir Safety qualified third in the main round for the playoffs. Perugia only had to admit defeat to the new master Lube Macerata in the final. In the cup, the team also reached the final and lost to Pallavolo Piacenza . As runner-up, Perugia qualified for the 2014/15 Champions League . Since Kovač moved to the Iranian national team , the former Serbian international Nikola Grbić took over as coach in Perugia. In the 2014/15 season, Sir Safety and German international Christian Fromm came fourth in the playoffs and lost to Trentino Volley in the semi-finals . Against the same opponent Perugia had to admit defeat in the cup semi-finals. In the Champions League, the team reached the playoffs as group winners. There Perugia met two Polish opponents. First, the Italians prevailed against Jastrzębski Węgiel , then they were eliminated against Skra Bełchatów . In 2015 Daniel Castellani came to Perugia as the new head coach. However, since the 2015/16 season was not as successful as hoped, the Argentine was dismissed in December and Slobodan Kovač returned as coach. In the Italian Cup, Sir Safety, who signed Denis Kaliberda as the second German player, is in the semi-finals. In the CEV Cup , Perugia prevailed against the Czech team ČEZ Karlovarsko in the first round and against Mirad PU Prešov from Slovakia in the round of 16 . In the quarter-finals, Sir Safety will play against German Bundesliga club SWD Powervolleys Düren in January 2016 .
