history

founding

Bilingual place-name sign

The association was founded in 1982 in the Aich cadastral community , which belongs to the Bleiburg municipality . Dob is the Slovenian name of Aich and is used equally in the bilingual community. Aich has only 141 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).

20 young people came up with the idea of founding the association during a vacation in which they played ball over a crossed rope in a courtyard. The former national volleyball team player Gerhard Kitzinger moved to Aich and made the sport popular. At first the club also had a table tennis department.

Martin Micheu joined the club in 1987 at the age of 17, initially as a player, since 2012 he has acted as a coach, and later he took over the position of sports director.

For the first time, the club rose to the first Austrian league in 1991. This rise was achieved with almost exclusively local players. Since then one of the first six places has always been achieved. After the runner-up in 2011 and 2012, SK Aich / Dob became champions for the first time in 2013. According to the club, these successes were achieved through the commitment of sports director Martin Micheu.

In addition to the professional team, the women's and men's teams achieved numerous championship titles and cup victories as well as good placements in the 2nd national and regional leagues. With its 20 youth teams, the club is committed to promoting young talent in the Bleiburg area and has won numerous titles with them.

Venue

Venue until 1991

Initially, the club played in the Slovenian cultural center in Bleiburg. After promotion to the 1st Bundesliga, the hall there was too low and the club played its home games in Prevalje, Slovenia . The hall there was not high enough for the 2011 AVL final and it had to be played in Klagenfurt . A newly built hall in Bleiburg was ready to move into at the start of the 2012 season.
