Olympiakos Piraeus ( Greek Ολυμπιακός Πειραιώς ) is the most successful Greek volleyball team that belongs to the sports club Olympiakos SFP from the port city of Piraeus and plays in the first Greek league.

history

The successful times of Olympiacos began in the late 1960s. As early as 1968 you could win the Athenians and the Panhellenic championship. A year later, Olympiakos defended the national championship and has been playing for the title ever since. Olympiacos Piraeus also won the first cup competition, which was introduced in 1981.

The club made its major international appearances in the 1990s - in Greece they won the championship title eight times in a row - in the Champions League they were the first Greek club to reach the final in 1992, only having to admit defeat to the Italians by Il Messaggero Ravenna . In 1993 and 1995 Olympiakos took third place in the European premier class. In 1995 Piraeus lost the championship to Panathinaikos Athens , and had to be content with qualifying for the Top Teams Cup . Here, however, they were the first Greek club to triumph over SV Bayer Wuppertal in the final , and they also reached the final again in 1997 and 1998. Both games were lost to Alpitour Traco Cuneo . In 2005 Piraeus won the Top Teams Cup for the second time. After six years without a national title, they won the championship five times and the cup four times from 2009.
