Dan Kersch (born December 27, 1961 in Esch an der Alzette ) is a Luxembourg politician .

Dan Kersch has been a member of the Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) since 1991 . Before that he was involved in the Communist Party of Luxembourg (KPL), after a split in the party, he joined the LSAP , like Vera Spautz . From 2000 to 2005 he was a member of the municipal council in Monnerich and then from 2006 to 2013 mayor of the municipality. Kersch worked full-time as an environmental consultant for Bettembourg until 2013 .

From 2009 to 2012 he was President of SYVICOL ( Syndicat des villes et communes luxembourgeoises , association of Luxembourg cities and municipalities). He was also a member of the State Council from 2011 to 2013 .

In the parliamentary elections in 2013 , Kersch was elected to the Luxembourg parliament for the first time . From December 4, 2013 he was Minister of the Interior in the Bettel-Schneider government . After a cabinet reshuffle, he has been responsible for the areas of work , employment and social and solidarity economy as well as sport since December 2018 .

During his tenure as Minister of the Interior, he was able to implement several major projects. This includes a reform of the community finances , the reform of the rescue system which led to the establishment of the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps, as well as the conversion of the church factories into church funds with the abolition of the direct financing of the churches by the communities.
