Pallavolo Piacenza (also Copra Piacenza ) is an Italian men's volleyball club from Piacenza , which takes part in the Italian volleyball championship (Serie A1). The main sponsor of the first team, under whose name it also plays, is the kitchen manufacturer Copra .

history

The club was founded in 1982 as Pallavolo Piacenza and initially played exclusively on a regional level. In the early 1990s, the team played in the C1 series. In 1996 he was promoted to the fourth-class B2 series, and two years later moved up to the B1 series. From 1998 the kitchen manufacturer Copra supported the first team as a name sponsor.

In 2000 the club acquired the A2 series license from Mezzolombardo Volley . In 2002 the team reached the championship of the A2 series as well as winning the A2 cup competition. With the rise, the name was changed to Copra Ventaglio . In the first season of the A1 series, the team reached 14th place. After the season, the club merged with Asystel Volley Milan , with the venue remaining in Piacenza. The merger strengthened the club with players such as Nikola Grbić , Hristo Zlatanov , Simone Rosalba , Osvaldo Hernandez , Andrea Gardini and the Cubans Leonel Marshall and Vigor Bovolenta .

In the 2003/04 season, the Copra Asystel Ventaglio team finished fourth in the championship and reached the final of the CEV Cup . In the following season Copra won the main round of Serie A1, but was eliminated in the semi-finals of the playoffs against Perugia Volley . In addition, the team played in the Champions League , where it did not get beyond the group stage.

In 2006 the Copra Berni team won the Top Teams Cup . In the following season it reached fourth place in the main round of Serie A and penetrated into the playoff final. There Copra Sisley Treviso was clearly defeated in three games. In addition, Copra reached the final of the CEV Cup , which it lost to Fakel Novy Urengoy . This qualified the team for the Champions League of the following season, in which it reached the final in 2008, but was defeated by Dynamo Kazan .

The 2008/09 season was the most successful in the club's history: After the main round of the A1 series, the team was in fifth place, but made it through the playoffs to the final, where they defeated Trentino Volley 3-2 in five games. Thus was Copra Piacenza in Italy for the first time in the club's champion. In the Champions League, Copra was group winners, but lost to AZS Częstochowa in the first playoff round . At the beginning of the following season, Copra won the Italian Supercup and, after leaving the Champions League, reached fourth place in the CEV Cup . In 2013 they won the European Challenge Cup .
