The Iranian national volleyball team for men is a selection of the best Iranian players who represent the Islamic Republic of Iran Volleyball Federation in international tournaments and internationals.
history
World Championship
When the Iranians first took part in a volleyball world championship in 1970, they finished 21st. In their second participation in 1998 they reached 19th place. The 2006 and 2010 tournaments also ended in lower places for them. At the 2014 World Cup they reached the third group stage and achieved their best result so far with sixth place. In 2018 they made it to the second round and 13th place.
Olympic games
The Iranians qualified for the Olympic Games for the first time in 2016 and reached the quarter-finals at the tournament in Rio de Janeiro , which they lost to Italy . At the Asian qualifying tournament in Jiangmen , they secured their starting place for Tokyo 2020 .
Asian Championship
In the Asian Volleyball Championship Iranians were 1,979 sixth. From tenth place in 1987 they increased continuously in the following tournaments until they narrowly missed the first medal in 1995 with fourth place. After finishing sixth in 1997, they finished fifth as hosts two years later. The same result came in 2001. At the 2003 tournament, the Iranians came third. Then they finished sixth and fifth again. In 2009 they reached the final for the first time, which they lost to Japan . As hosts, they became Asian champions for the first time in 2011 with a final win against China . Two years later they managed to defend their title against South Korea . In 2015 they had to admit defeat to Japan in Tehran . In 2017 they came in fifth place. The 2019 tournament took place again in their own country and in the final against Australia the Iranians won the title for the third time.
World cup
The Iranians first took part in the 1991 World Cup and finished eleventh. In 2011 they were there again and came in twelfth place. Four years later they finished eighth. They achieved the same result at the World Cup 2019 .
Nations League
In the first edition of the Nations League 2018 , the Iranians finished tenth. At the 2019 tournament , they made it to the finals, but not the semifinals.
World league

The Iranians played in the world league for the first time in 2013 and finished tenth. The following year they climbed to fourth place. In the last three editions of the competition up to 2017, the results with places seven, eight and eleven were again slightly worse.
