Asian Volleyball Confederation

The Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC, German : Asiatic Volleyball Association ) is the continental umbrella organization of volleyball for Asia and Oceania . The head office of the association is located in Beijing ( China ).

The AVC was founded on May 6, 1952 on the initiative of the Japanese Nishikawa. At that time the association had twelve members. After the FIVB decided at its congress in September 1961 to set up committees for the continental zones, the Asian Association was renamed the Asian Volleyball Federation (AVF) in 1962. On October 8, 1962, Nishikawa was elected chairman of the Asian Sport Committee (ASC). The association was later given back its previous name after a revision of the FIVB. In November 1976 the AVC elected Maeda from Japan as its new president. He was replaced in November 1985 by his compatriot Yasutaka Matsudaira. Today's president of the AVC is the Chinese Jizhong Wei .
