The South Korean men's national volleyball team is a selection of the best South Korean players represented by the Korea Volleyball Association in international tournaments and internationals.

history

World championships

At the volleyball world championship in 1956, South Korea finished 18th. In 1974 the Koreans took part for the second time and finished thirteenth. Four years later, in fourth place, they achieved their best result so far. After finishing eighth in 1982, they missed the 1986 World Cup. In the 1990s, the results were mixed (14, 8, 13). At the 2002 World Cup, South Korea was not there, in 2006 in Japan after the preliminary round only the 17th place remained.

Olympic games

South Korea was tenth at the first Olympic tournament in Tokyo in 1964 . In 1972 and 1976 the Koreans climbed to seventh and sixth place. In 1984 in Los Angeles , they achieved their best result so far with fifth place. At the games in their own country in 1988 , however, they could not benefit from the home advantage and came in eleventh as badly as never before. It was followed by three ninth places.

Asian Championship

At the premiere of the Asian Volleyball Championship in 1975, South Korea only had to admit defeat to the Japanese . Four years later, the Koreans lost in the final against China . After two third places, they won the title for the first time as hosts against Japan in 1989. In 1991 the Japanese took revenge, but two years later South Korea were again Asian champions, this time against Kazakhstan. At the second tournament in his own country in 1995 he failed to defend his title with third place. In 1997, the Koreans missed the medal ranks for the only time so far, they were only fifth. But after finishing third in 1999, they won their third continental title against Australia in 2001 - again in front of their own audience. They were able to defend this against China in 2003. At the tournaments in 2005 and 2007, South Korea came third.

World cup

In the first three appearances in the World Cup , South Korea finished seventh in 1977, 1985 and 1989. In 1991 there was the best result with fifth place. South Korea was now there regularly and reached places eight, seven and six. At the 2007 tournament the Koreans only finished eleventh.

World league

At the world league tournaments from 1991 to 1994, South Korea achieved placements between eight and ten. In 1995 the Koreans climbed to sixth place. After a year off, they finished eleventh twice. In 2006 they returned, but there was nothing more than ranks ten and nine. From 2009 to 2011 it was only enough to get 13th, 16th and 13th again.
