Lorenzo Bernardi (born August 11, 1968 in Trento ) is a former Italian volleyball player and today's volleyball coach.
Career as a player
Lorenzo Bernardi started his career in 1981 in the Tridentine homeland with Marzola Trento. From 1984 to 2007 the outside attacker, who began as a setter, played for 23 years in the Italian "Serie A1" at the top clubs Pallavolo Padua , Pallavolo Modena , Sisley Treviso , Trentino Volley , Lube Macerata , Marmi Lanza Verona and Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari , interrupted from two short engagements abroad at Al-Rayyan SC and Olympiacos Piraeus . During this time he was nine times Italian champion, five times Italian cup winner, four times Champions League winner , twice European cup winners and four times CEV cup winners .
Lorenzo Bernardi played 306 times for the Italian national team from 1987 to 2001 . He took part in three Olympic tournaments and won several world and European championships, as well as the world league and world cup. He was honored several times as "Most Valuable Player".
In 2011 Lorenzo Bernardi was inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame .
Career as a coach
Bernardi has been a trainer since 2007. He initially worked for two years as a player-coach at Anaune Cles . In 2009 he coached the Italian national B team and in the following season the second division Pallavolo Padua . From 2010 to 2014 Bernardi worked at Jastrzębski Węgiel in Poland . In the following two years he coached the men's team from Halkbank Ankara , with whom he became Turkish champions and cup winners. Since 2016 he has been the coach of the Italian first division club Sir Safety Perugia .
