The Association of Austrian Landes-Hypothekenbanken , founded in 1947, is the central representation of interests of the Austrian Landes- Hypothekenbanken (= full members), the subsidiary companies and the joint institutions of the Austrian Landes-Hypothekenbanken. The association is registered in the legal form of an association in the Austrian register of associations (to ZVR 238782683) and is managed and represented externally by the president or two vice-presidents together with the general secretary (association manager). The highest organ is the general assembly. There is also the quarterly directors' conference in which i. d. As a rule, the chairmen of the board of the member institutes have a seat and vote.
Since 1988 there has been a special trade association (“Fachverband der Landes-Hypothekenbanken”) within the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKO).
history
The Landes-Mortgagebanken were at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Founded in the 19th century by regional authorities / states under sovereign rule as public corporations. Considerations existed as early as 1763 at the end of the 7-year war , when the removal of the devastation and the relaxation / abolition of serfdom required capital. Money and credit transactions should be encouraged. For this purpose, on the one hand, security on land was offered, on the other hand, state guarantees were given for non-profit Pfandbrief institutes or universal banks were given special advantages / “privileges”. The purpose was to promote the issuance of Pfandbriefe and municipal letters to refinance long-term mortgage and municipal loans.
Company profile
Today the Landes-Hypothekenbanken run their operational banking operations as stock corporations and, as regional universal banks with headquarters in the state capitals, focus primarily on long-term business in their traditional areas of housing construction and municipal credit . They also dedicate themselves to the corporate and private customer business as local suppliers.
Following the “agreement between the Republic of Austria and the European Commission” in 2003, the existing general state guarantees expired on September 30, 2017. The ownership structures of the member banks are different. In some cases, the majority of the shares are held by individual federal states; in some cases, institutes have become wholly privately owned.
