The HYPO NOE Landesbank for Lower Austria and Vienna AG (short: HYPO NOE Landesbank) is one of the oldest and largest regional banks in Austria. Within the group, HYPO NOE Landesbank is a partner for the public sector, real estate and large customers as well as private and business customers in the core markets of Lower Austria , Vienna and selectively in the Danube region. The state of Lower Austria is 100 percent owner of the bank. The strategy is based on regionality, customer proximity and sustainability.

HYPO NOE Leasing GmbH is particularly responsible for the leasing business with the public sector and with corporations under public law. Competencies are complex real estate leasing contracts with project character. history
Foundation & first years
The oldest part of the group is the Landesbank, which was founded as the Landes-Hypothekenanstalt for Lower Austria back in 1888. On the occasion of the partial privatization, 26% was sold to Österreichische Volksbanken-Aktiengesellschaft .
Restructuring in HYPO Landesbank
In 1998 the bank moved its headquarters to St. Pölten. In 1999 VBAG's share was increased to 41%. In 2007, the state repurchased the ÖVAG shares and the bank is split into HYPO Investmentbank AG and Niederösterreichische Landesbank-Hypothekenbank Aktiengesellschaft (HYPO Landesbank). Since then, it has been 100 percent owned by the State of Lower Austria again.
In September 2017, the banking operations of HYPO NOE Gruppe Bank AG and HYPO NOE Landesbank AG were merged. The merged bank will operate under the name HYPO NOE Landesbank für Niederösterreich und Wien AG from September 23, 2017. By reintegrating the retail and residential construction business into the core bank, increases in efficiency are ensured by reducing the complexity of the organization and leveraging operational synergy effects.
Current developments
In autumn 2012, General Director Peter Harold opened a new corporate headquarters on behalf of the HYPO NOE Group in St. Pölten with a net floor area of around 19,000 m². In addition to these infrastructure measures, according to the board of directors, the company also wants to continue to focus on sustainable development in the federal state of Lower Austria in its business areas and has been preparing a sustainability / CSR report for this purpose since 2013.
In summer 2020, after the bank had placed a green bond on the market for the first time in Austria , the bank's sustainability rating was raised from C to C + by the rating agency ISS ESG.

Culture:
Controversy
No criminal proceedings are pending against HYPO NOE or its organs. All investigations were discontinued in 2017 because there were no indications of misconduct.
On the one hand, the investigation that the public prosecutor's office initiated years ago in connection with the crashed securities of the US investment bank Lehman Brothers was discontinued in 2017 because there were no indications of a misconduct by the HYPO NOE bodies.
On the second “Augustus”: The background was that Hypo Investmentbank acquired a 20 percent stake in Augustus Funding Ltd. in 2007. (Dublin) has received around 800 million euros and is said to have speculated 40 million euros. According to the Oesterreichischer Nationalbank (OeNB) and the Financial Market Authority (FMA), the large investment limit has been exceeded for these investments. The FMA's penalty of 58 million euros was made in 2011 and taken into account in the annual financial statements. This regulation was challenged by HYPO NOE at the administrative court, HYPO NOE was right in 2013 and the bank was remitted the full amount.
