Marrit Leenstra (born October 18, 1973 in Emmen ) is a former Dutch volleyball and beach volleyball player. In both disciplines she took part in Olympic tournaments.

Career

Leenstra began her volleyball career in 1983 in the hall with OSV Pegasus Ter Apel . She then played in Ommen and Martinus Amstelveen before moving to Monte Schiavo Jesi in Italy . Further stations of her club career were San Donà , Florence and Ravenna . After four years in the youth selection, she was appointed to the senior national team for the first time in 1992 , with which she reached sixth place in Barcelona in 1992 . In 1995 the Netherlands became European champions with Leenstra in front of their home crowd . At the 1996 Olympic tournament in Atlanta , the team finished fifth. Two years later, Leenstra resigned from the national team.

In 2001 she finally switched to beach volleyball. With her partner Rebekka Kadijk , she came 17th at the World Championships in Klagenfurt . A year later she became vice European champion in Basel after a final defeat against the Italians Gattelli / Perrotta . At national level, Kadijk / Leenstra won the title twice. In 2003, the duo achieved their first overall victory in an open tournament in Lianyungang and at the European Championships they just missed the medal ranks as fourth, while at the World Championships they again came 17th. For these successes, Leenstra was named Amsterdam's Sportswoman of the Year. In 2004 in Athens , she also took part in the Olympic tournament as a beach volleyball player and finished 19th with Kadijk. At the end of the year, Leenstra and Kadijk parted ways.

Leenstra played with Sanne Keizer for the first time at the Shanghai Open 2005 . Shortly afterwards she reached 17th place again at the World Championships in Berlin . The best results were achieved by the new duo in Montreal (fourth) and Bali (fifth). After the 2007 World Cup , where it was only 37th place, Keizer looked for a new partner. Leenstra competed in a few tournaments with Cintha Boersma before she ended her sporting career after the Grand Slam in Paris in 2008 .
