Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant is 30 km east of Lianyungang . Two nuclear reactors are in operation, two (as of 2012) are under construction. The Fukushima nuclear disaster (March 2011) made the population aware that nuclear power plants directly on the coast are threatened by tsunamis.

traffic

During the Tang Dynasty , Lianyungang was the starting point of a trade line that linked China with other countries in Southeast Asia.

The city is the eastern end of the Longhai – Lanzhou railway line and is located on the Qingdao – Yancheng railway line, which opened on December 26, 2018 .
