Changzhou ( Chinese 常州 , Pinyin Chángzhōu , W.-G. Ch'ang 2 -chou 1 , obsolete after Post Changchow ) is a district-free city in the Jiangsu Province of the People's Republic of China . Changzhou has an area of 4374 km² and around 4,591,972 inhabitants (2010).
Administrative structure
The city is made up of five districts and one urban district. These are:
- District Zhonglou ( 钟楼区 , Zhonglou Qū )
- Tianning District ( 天宁区 , Tiānníng Qū )
- District Taipei County ( 新北区 , Taipei County Qū )
- Wujin District ( 武进 区 , Wǔjìn Qū )
- Jintan District ( 金 坛 区 , Jīntán Qū )
- City of Liyang ( 溧阳 市 , Lìyáng Shì )
General
The history of Changzhou goes back over 2500 years. Today the city is a rapidly growing industrial city with the China Dinosaur Park as one of the tourist attractions.
Changzhou is located south of the Yangtze on the rail and highway connections from Shanghai to Nanjing . The airport is about 15 kilometers from the city center.
The city is cut through by the busy Kaiserkanal .
economy
Traditionally, Changzhou is famous for making combs. Today the city is a rapidly growing industrial city with a focus on the recycling of silicon and the production of ingots , wafers , solar cells and solar modules . MAN opened a plant here in November 2008, and the Taiwanese company Kymco has one of its production facilities for scooters here.
