Coordinates: 33 ° 58 '  S , 151 ° 6'  O Hurstville City was a Local Government Area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . Hurstville was part of the metropolis of Sydney , the capital of New South Wales. The area was 23 km² and had about 79,000 inhabitants.

In 2016, Hurstville City was merged with the Kogarah Council to form the Georges River Council .

Hurstville was in the southwest of the inner area of ​​Sydney north of the Georges River about 15 to 20 km southwest of the city center of Sydney. The area included 24 neighborhoods: Gungah Bay, Hurstville Westfield, Jew Fish Point, Kingsway, Kingsway West, Lugarno, Lugarno North, Mortdale Heights, Oatley West, Peakhurst, Peakhurst Heights, Peakhurst South, Peakhurst West and parts of Allawah, Beverly Hills, Beverly Hills North, Carlton, Hurstville, Kingsgrove, Mortdale, Narwee, Oatley, Penshurst and Riverwood. The administrative headquarters of the council was in the district of Hurstville in the far east of the LGA.

The Hurstville City Council had twelve members elected by the residents of the three wards (four each from Hurstville, Peakhurst, and Penshurst Ward). These three districts were defined independently of the localities. The mayor of the council was also recruited from among the councilors.
