The Municipality of Kogarah was a local administrative area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . Kogarah belonged to the metropolis of Sydney , the capital of New South Wales. The area was 16 km² and had about 56,000 inhabitants. In 2016 it was absorbed by the Georges Rivers Council .
Kogarah was in the south of Inner Sydney west of Botany Bay on the Georges River about 15 km southwest of the city center. The area comprised 20 neighborhoods: Bald Face, Beverley Park, Blakehurst, Carss Park, Connells Point, Hurstville Grove, Hurstville South, Kogarah Bay, Kyle Bay, Tom Uglys Point and parts of Allawah, Carlton, Hurstville, Kogarah, Kogarah South, Mortdale , Oatley, Penshurst , Ramsgate and Sans Souci. The seat of the Shire Council was in the district of Kogarah in the extreme northeast of the LGA.

The Kogarah Council had twelve members who were elected by the residents of the LGA. Three members each came from the four Wards East, Middle, North and West. These four districts were determined independently of the districts. The mayor of the council was also recruited from among the councilors.
