Saga ( jap. 佐賀 市 , -shi ) is the prefectural administration and largest city of the Saga prefecture of the same name on the island of Kyūshū in Japan .

Saga is located on the southern main island of Kyushu , southwest of the port city of Fukuoka .
history
The Saga plain has been settled since ancient times. At the end of the 16th century Saga Castle was built here as the seat of the sovereign Nabeshima , around which a castle town developed. The modern city was founded on April 1st, 1889 and has grown to today's size through the successive incorporation of neighboring villages.

- Saga is also known for hot air balloons . The Saga International Balloon Fiesta takes place there every year. In 2005 around 15 million people visited this international festival, in which balloonists from all over the world take part.
