Limeira , officially Portuguese Município de Limeira , is a city in the Brazilian state of São Paulo with an estimated population of 303,682 on July 1, 2018.

geography

Limeira is located about 150 km northwest of the state capital São Paulo . The community area is 581 km².

City administration

Executive: In the local elections in 2016, Mário Boiton of the Partido Social Democrático (PSD) was re-elected as city prefect (mayor). The legislature rests with a city council (Câmara Municipal) made up of 21 city councilors (vereadores).

education

The University of Universidade Estadual de Campinas has a campus in Limeira.

Sports

The city has two large football stadiums: Estádio Major José Levy Sobrinho , known as Limeirão , for around 18,000 spectators, and the Estádio Comendador Agostinho Prada , known as Pradão , for around 9,500 spectators.

The local soccer club AA Internacional plays in the second division of the São Paulo state championship . Between 1986 and 1988, the club was also a national second-class and played in the Brazilian Série B .

The basketball club Winner Basquete Limeira was able to win the Campeonato Brasileiro de Basquete in 2006.
