Região geográfica imediata

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Região geográfica imediata is the new division of Brazil into statistical-geographical regions introduced in 2017 by the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística . It replaces the previous structure as micro-regions . They have no local authority function.

The breakdown into microregions had been in force since 1989, initially the mesoregions were determined, then these were divided into smaller regions. In the reorganization according to geographical regions, the procedure was reversed: first, the Regiões Geográficas Imediadas, i.e. the municípios (political communities) lying next to one another (imediata) , then the associated Região geográfica intermediária , the replacement for the mesoregions .

Similar elements such as land and population structures, economic and labor market conditions are decisive. The “Immediate Geographical Regions” have a six-digit code number.

Similar classifications can be found in Europe e.g. B. with NUTS and LAUs .
