In January 2010 he moved to São Paulo FC , after about three years there he moved to Grêmio Porto Alegre in January 2013 and after another year, Freitas moved to Figueirense FC . There, however, his contract was canceled only two months later.

After five months without a club, Freitas moved to the second team of Dynamo Dresden at the beginning of the 2014/15 season , which was then playing in the Northeast Football League. In the course of the dissolution of the second team, Freita's contract in Dresden was also dissolved in December 2014 after only four months and two games in which Freitas had scored a goal. In the 2015/16 season , Freitas made a free transfer to the league promoted Inter Leipzig , for whom he made his debut on October 3, 2015 in the 2-0 win against Bischofswerda FV 08 and also scored his first goal. In the first half of the season Freitas played a total of eight league games, in which he scored six goals. During the winter break, Marcelo Freitas moved to the regional division FC Oberlausitz Neugersdorf , for whom he played his first game on February 5, 2016 in a 1-1 draw against FSV Budissa Bautzen . In the first half of the 2016/17 Regionalliga season , Freitas played all 18 possible league games for Neugersdorf and scored six goals, plus one goal in the 5-3 defeat on penalties against VfB Auerbach in the round of 16 of the Wernesgrüner Sachsenpokal . During the winter break, Freitas left FCO Neugersdorf and joined FC Energie Cottbus . He made his debut for Cottbus on February 11, 2017 in a 1-0 win against FC Schönberg 95 , in which he scored the winning goal.
