The Figueirense Futebol Clube , usually just called Figueirense , is a football club from Florianópolis , the capital of the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, founded in 1921 .

The name Figueirense refers to the former Figueira district , where the meetings for the founding of the association took place and which is part of today's city center. A fig tree (port .: Figueira ) stood there for decades , which has also been depicted in the coat of arms since 1970. The club colors are black and white.

The club plays in the Orlando Scarpelli stadium , which has a capacity of around 20,000 and was officially opened on June 12, 1960, the 39th birthday of the club. Although the club was founded on the island, the stadium is located in the Estreito district on the mainland.

The club's biggest rival is the other big club from Florianópolis, Avaí FC .

Figueirense played in the first Brazilian league, Série A , from 2002 to 2008 and ended up relegated to Série B due to the goal difference. In 2010, the team succeeded in being promoted back to the Série A. In the 2012 season, however, the club was the last to descend. In 2014, the company rose again. In 2015 they finished second in the state championship. Due to a rule violation, the original master Joinville EC was stripped of the title and Figueirense was declared master. With 17th titles now, the club is the sole record champion.
