The Paraná Clube is a Brazilian soccer club from the city of Curitiba in the state of Paraná . It was founded on 19 December 1989, and currently playing in Brazil's top league, the Series A . The club is also called tricolor because of its club colors (red-white-blue) .

history

The club was formed in 1989 from a merger of the two clubs Esporte Clube Pinheiros and Colorado Esporte Clube . The club started its first season with its first coach, Rubens Minelli . The club played their first game on February 4, 1990 against local rivals Coritiba FC , which they lost 1-0.

Two years after it was founded, the club won its first regional title, the Campeonato Paranaense . This title should not be the last in history. The following year, the club promotion to the first division, the Series A . Paraná was the first to face the competition and so rose to the 1993 season. From that year on, the club achieved a previously unique success in the club's history: From 1993 to 1997 they won the regional championship five times in a row.

In 2006 the club won their seventh title at the Campeonato Paranaense with a 3-0 win over Associação Desportivo Atlética de Paraná .

In 2007 Paraná took part for the first time in the Copa Libertadores , the South American counterpart to the UEFA Champions League , and made it to the round of 16. Nationally, however, the descent into the second division took place.

The stadium

The club plays its home games at the Estádio Vila Capanema and the Estádio Vila Olimpica . In addition, the Estádio Pinheirão is another stadium available at any time.
