These were Santa Cruz FC , Criciúma EC , Ceará SC , Clube do Remo , América Mineiro and Paraná Clube . The two best in each group advanced to the third round.
The knockout round planned for the third round could not be held in this form. The Fortaleza EC appealed to the court. From the club's point of view, this should have qualified for the third round. In his group E Fortaleza scored six points and was ranked third behind Santa Cruz . The club had earned six points and took second place on the attributed point. Fortaleza sued against the establishment of this order . The claim was upheld by the CBF. The association decided that both clubs could move into the third round. In order to get a round number of participants for the third round, the same rule for group G should apply, in which the Grêmio Porto Alegre was in third place. The club decided not to participate for financial reasons and América Mineiro, third in Group F, moved up. The now eight clubs competed against each other in two groups of four. The two group winners advanced to the final.
In the semi-finals, the group winners in round three met the group runners-up.
