The Coritiba Foot Ball Club is a football club from Curitiba , the capital of the Brazilian state of Paraná.

history

In 1909 some young people, members of the German Society of Coritiba, got together to do sports in the Club Ginástico Teuto-Brasileiro. In September of the same year, one of these young people, Frederico Fritz Essenfelder , brought a leather ball to the club and explained the football rules to the others. The youngsters liked the new sport and started playing games in the Quartel da Força Pública square. The Coritibano Football Club was founded on October 12th. The association was founded in Teatro Hauer .

On October 23, the new club's first official game was played in Ponta Grossa . The opponent at the time was the Club de Foot-Ball Tiro Pontagrossense, which was founded by English workers from the Ponta Grossa railroad. The game ended 0-1 from the perspective of Coritiba FC. At that time Coritiba consisted of the founders: Artur Hauer, Alfredo Labsch, Leopoldo Obladen, Robert Juchsch, Carlos Schlender, Fritz Essenfelder, Carl Maschke, Waldemar Hauer, Rudolf Kastrup, Adolpho Müller, Emílio Dietrich, Erothides Calberg and Arthur Iwersen.

On October 21, 1910, the club changed its name for the first time and became Coritiba. João Viana Seiler was elected the club's first president. On June 12, 1910, the first game took place in Curitiba , in Campo do Prado. Coritiba defeated the Ponta Grossa Foot Ball Club (previously: Club de Foot-Ball Tiro Pontagrossense) 5: 3 and was able to take revenge for the defeat in the first game. In 1916 the first title could be won with the state championship of Paraná . The first national title had to be waited a long time. 1985 Coritiba defeated the Bangu AC from Rio de Janeiro in the championship finals.
