The Fortaleza Esporte Clube is a football club from the capital of the Brazilian state Ceará , the coastal metropolis Fortaleza . The club, founded on October 18, 1918, plays in the 2018 season in the Série B , the second division of Brazil, and was champion in this.

history

The founding of the association goes back to Alcides Santos. In February 1912 he founded a club called "Fortaleza" for the first time. He was also involved in founding the Stella Foot-Ball Club in May 1915 . On October 18, 1918, the Fortaleza Sporting Club was finally created, as the club was called before it was renamed Fortaleza Esporte Clube .

In 1920 the club was involved in the establishment of a representation for the regional football teams and in the same year also won the national championship of Ceará, the so-called Campeonato Cearense , for the first time . In the meantime - until 2007 - the club was able to win this title 36 times. The club has never achieved a national title. The greatest success was reaching the final of the Taça Brasil in 1960 . After relegation from the Brazilian first division in 2006, Fortaleza played in the Série B until 2009. From 2010 to 2017, the club played in the Série C and again in the Série B in 2018 in the top Brazilian division for the 2019 season.
