The Taça Brasil (Brazil Cup) was the first national soccer competition in Brazil. The Taça was hosted by the Brazilian Sports Federation, the CBD , in 1960 . The 1960 Taça Brasil champion qualified for the 1961 Copa Libertadores .

The winners of the Taça Brasil were seen at the time as Campeões, as champions of Brazil. The CBF refused to officially recognize the clubs as Brazilian champions until 2010.

Season course

The competition started its season on September 6, 1960 and ended on December 28, 1960.

The top scorer was Bececê from Fortaleza EC with 7 goals .

Supreme victory

Attendees

In its second season, the competition for a team was increased to 17 participants. The mode consisted of a kind of cup system. Participants were the winners of the 1959 state championships .

mode

After the first and second leg, only the number of wins counted, no other criteria. If both teams have won once, a playoff was played. If this did not result in a winner, the goal difference counted. If the comparison did not result in a winner, the decision was made by tossing a coin.

1st round: In the first round, the participants were divided into four regions according to their origin in order to keep travel distances and costs low. In the groups, the teams met in cup mode. The winners were determined in the first and second legs. The final winner of each group moved on to the final round.

Final round: The competition mode remained the same as in the first round. The qualifiers from the first round meet in the quarterfinals. The clubs of the associations from Rio de Janeiro (at that time still Guanabara (state) ) and São Paulo were traditionally considered to be stronger and completed the field in the semi-finals.

Closing table

The table only served to determine the placement of the individual teams in the season. At times it was used by the association to determine an eternal ranking list. It is made up of all the games played. In the sorting, reaching the respective final phase has priority over the points scored.
