The Campeonato Brasileiro Série A 1993 was the 37th season of the Brazilian Série A .

Season course

The Série A started its new season on September 4, 1993 and ended on December 19, 1993. The championship was organized by the national association CBF .

1st round mode : Initially, the clubs competed in four groups (A - D) of eight teams each and played against each other here and there. In groups A and B, the supposedly stronger clubs played against each other. These were the members of the Clube dos 13 plus the three top-ranked non-members from the 1992 season (Bragantino, Sport and Guarani). The three best in the group qualified for the second round. In groups C and D, the weaker clubs played against each other. Here the two best in the group qualified for a playoff round. The two winners of this round completed the field for the second round. The four worst teams from groups C and D had to relegate to Série B for the 1994 season .

2nd round : The eight teams competed in two groups (E - F) of four teams each and played against each other here and there. The group winners qualified directly for the final.

Overall table : An overall table was formed from the results of the first and second round.

After the season, as every year, awards were given to the best players of the year. The “ Golden Ball ”, awarded by the sports magazine Placar , went to César Sampaio from SE Palmeiras . Guga was the top scorer with 15 goals.

For the Copa Libertadores 1994 , SE Palmeiras qualified as champions in 1993 and Cruzeiro EC as cup winners in 1993 and São Paulo FC as defending champions.

In early 1994, the América Mineiro sued a civil court against his relegation to the Série B. Due to the going to a civil court, the club was excluded from the championship competition for two years. In 1996 he was allowed to compete in Série B again.
