Antônio Carlos Zago (born March 14, 1969 in Presidente Prudente ) is a former Brazilian soccer player and now an active soccer coach .
Career
Career as a football player
Antônio Carlos Zago began his football career at the age of 21 with the Brazilian club São Paulo FC . He stayed with his first football club until 1992. He completed 64 league games there and scored four goals. At the end of the 1992 season he canceled the contract and signed at the beginning of the 1992 season a contract for one year with the Spanish club Albacete Balompié . He's been on the pitch twelve times this season and once managed to get the ball into goal. In 1993 he moved back to the Brazilian club Palmeiras , which he remained loyal to for two seasons. He and the team were on the field 58 times, five of which he put into the net. After the two seasons he moved to the Japanese football club Kashiwa Reysol , where he took part in 24 games, but could not score. He had a more scoring season at the Brazilian club Corinthians , where he was on the field twelve times and managed to score two goals. In 1998 he signed a four-year contract with the Italian club AS Roma . There he received 107 missions and scored two goals. In 2002 he ended the contract and signed a new contract with the Turkish club Beşiktaş Istanbul . There he took part in 54 games, he shot two balls into the goal. At the end of the 2003/04 season he moved to a new club Santos for the 2004/05 season , where he played seven times (without a goal). At the beginning of the 2005 season he signed a contract with the Brazilian club EC Juventude , where he was on the field 52 times and scored two goals. His last club as an active football player was once again FC Santos , where he only played one game and remained goalless. After that, he ended his career as an active soccer player. He took part in a total of 393 games, where he scored 18 goals. On average, he scored one goal in every 22nd game.
Career as a football coach
He has been a coach since the 2009/10 season. In 2009 he began his career as a football coach at the Brazilian club AD São Caetano , where he was active as a coach for one season. In 2010 and 2011 he signed two coaching contracts each. The first contract in 2010 was with Palmeiras São Paulo . He signed his second contract with the Brazilian club Gremio Barueri , which he turned his back on at the end of the same year. In the next year 2011 he was active as a coach of the club Mogi Mirim EC and then he moved to the club Vila Nova FC . In 2012 he worked as a coach at the Grêmio Esportivo Osasco club . A year later he was an assistant at the Italian club AS Roma and then he moved to the Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk , where he is still active today.
