The Mogi Mirim EC , also just called Mogi or Sapão (toad) , is a football club from Mogi Mirim in the Brazilian state of São Paulo . The club was founded in 1932.

history

The club was founded on February 1, 1932 and has participated in tournaments organized by the Federação Paulista de Futebol since its first year . In the fifties the club created a professional department. In the 1980s, after the arrival of Wilson de Barros as club president, the club was promoted to the Série A of the São Paulo state championship in 1985 .

In the 1993 season, the club was nicknamed Carrossel Caipira . A system similar to that of the Dutch World Cup team from 1974 was played, which also made it difficult for the big clubs of São Paulo to play against Mogi Mirim. In 1994 you had to relegate to the Série B of the state championship, but could rise again directly in the following year 1995. For the 1994 season, the club rose to the B series of the national championship and finished 7th at the end of the season and even 3rd in the following year. In 1997, the club rose back to the C series as 21st.

Series A 2000

In the 2000 season, Mogi Mirim was allowed to take part in the top Brazilian league competition for the only time so far. The Copa João Havelange in 2000 could not be organized by the association due to disputes between various clubs and the national association . This took over the Clube dos 13 , which invited all clubs from the series A to D from 1999 to the event. At the end of the season, Mogi Mirim finished 94th out of 114th places.

Rivaldo club owner

In 2008, the former international and soccer world champion Rivaldo became chairman of the club. He bought the club, provided the debt of the club in the amount of 1.8 million Real paid. Rivaldo is said to have invested a total of 15 million reals by the time the club is resold in 2015.

2010 Mogi Mirim competed in the national championship, hoping to play a better season than 2009, in which they could just save themselves from relegation. At the end of the state championship, the club was twelfth and qualified for a place in the São Paulo State Cup for the second half of the year. In the competition you couldn't get past the first round.

2011 The club only took part in the Paulista and finished 11th with 25 points.

2012 Mogi Mirim had a fantastic campaign in the national championship, qualified 6th for the quarter-finals and lost 2-0 to FC Santos with Neymar in Vila Belmiro . By winning the subsequent Campeonato Paulista do Interior , Mogi Mirim secured participation in Série D that year. By reaching the semifinals, the club secured a starting place in the Série C for 2013, although they were eliminated in the semifinals against Atlético Catalano .

In 2013 , the club finished fourth in the national championship after being eliminated on penalties against FC Santos in the semi-finals. Due to the good performance in the competition, Mogi Mirim was one of the favorites for the start of the Série C. Here the club reached fifth place and narrowly missed the qualification for the Série B.

2014 After three good years in the national championship, Mogi Mirim disappointed his fans in 2014. He finished in a disappointing 15th place and narrowly escaped relegation to the Série A2.

In the Série C, the club had excellent results in the group stage in 18 games. The Toads collected nine wins, four draws and five losses. In the final phase, the club reached the semi-finals, in which it was eliminated against Paysandu SC . Nevertheless, the qualification for the Série B for 2015 was done.

At the beginning of December 2014, Rivaldo put the club up for sale on Instagram .

Downs from 2015

2015 With the qualification for the Série B, the national championship of 2015 started with high expectations. At the end of the competition, however, the club landed on a disappointing 15th place. The disappointment continued in Série B 2015 . As 20th and thus bottom of the table, Mogi Mirim had to relegate to the Série C for 2016.

2016 The state championship started unhappy for Mogi Mirim. At the end of the season, the club was 16. Under normal circumstances, this would have prevented relegation to the A2 series. The state association FPF had decided to reduce the number of participants for the league in the future. Therefore, of the 20 participants, the last four should no longer descend, but the last six in that year. So Mogi Mirim also had to go into the subordinate league.

In Série C, the Mogi Mirim fought another crash. The club was deducted four points because of the irregular use of a player, but could still remain 15th in the league.

2017 In the state championship one was practically passed through. Mogi Mirim only reached the penultimate place and slipped into the Série A3 for 2018. The club also had to relegate from the Série C at the end of the season. He only finished 19th.

2018 Anyone who had thought that the club would get back on its feet in the state championship saw themselves wrong at the end of the season. As bottom of the table it went for Mogi Mirim in the Segunda Divisão.

In Serie D, the club was eliminated with only three points from six games in the preliminary round. With that Mogi Mirim lost his starting place in the competition.

2019 In that year, the club initially only competes in the Segunda Divisão (fourth division) of the national championship.

mascot

The club's mascot is a toad. The figure originated from the story of the city of Mogi Mirim. When it was founded, there were numerous swamps in the city area, which housed a huge number of toads. After the club was founded, the amphibian became a mascot and was adopted as such by the fans.
