Riot

After a person had already been shot in the course of the national championship in Rio de Janeiro 2017 in the game between the Botafogo FR and Flamengo Rio de Janeiro , another fatal incident occurred on matchday 12 of the championship: before the game between the CR Vasco da Gama and again Flamengo Rio de Janeiro, David Rocha Lopes (26), a supporter of Vasco da Gama, was fatally wounded by two bullets in the chest. According to a report, including the publication of video recordings by O Globo , Lopes died not before but after the game. According to the report, it was suggested that Lopes was not shot by Flamengo fans, but by a military policeman.

After Vasco lost the game against local rivals 0-1, the tense situation escalated during the game. There were massive riots on the part of Vasco fans. The club's players and their relatives initially had to stay in the dressing rooms until the military police had the situation under control.

On the same day there were also clashes between fans of Botafogo FR and Atlético Mineiro in Rio de Janeiro . The clash between rival fans, in which a Botafogo fan was injured in the head, was interrupted by the military police.
