The Estádio Moisés Lucarelli is a football stadium in the Brazilian city of Campinas . It has space for 19,722 spectators and serves as the home of the AA Ponte Preta association .

history

The Estádio Moisés Lucarelli in Campinas , a city with just over a million inhabitants, was built between 1944 and 1948 and opened on September 12, 1948. For the first game in the new stadium, AA Ponte Preta and EC XV de Novembro (Piracicaba) met for a friendly match that ended with a 3-0 win for the visiting team. At the time of completion of the stadium, it had space for 35,000 people and was the third largest in the nation after the Morumbi in São Paulo and the Estádio São Januário in Rio by CR Vasco da Gama and thus earned the nickname Majestoso .

The number of spectators was reduced in 2005 as part of renovation work to the 19,722 spectator seats that are still valid today, primarily in favor of safety in the stadium. The record crowd at the Estádio Moisés Lucarelli was achieved when the top Brazilian club São Paulo FC made a guest appearance in Campinas on February 1 , 1978 , and 37,274 onlookers watched the 3-1 success of São Paulo FC.

Since its completion in 1948, the Estádio Moisés Lucarelli has been used by the local AA Ponte Preta club as a venue for home football matches. The club, which was founded in 1900, can boast as its greatest success so far the double win of the state championship of São Paulo , but only in the junior area. This succeeded in 1981 and 1982. In league operations, AA Ponte Preta is currently to be found in the first-class Série A , after the third place was occupied in the Série B of the 2011 season, which entitled to promotion to the first class. In addition to AA Ponte Preta, a second club plays its home games at the Estádio Moisés Lucarelli. The Red Bull Brasil club, founded in 2007, does not currently play in the top leagues of Brazilian football.

The stadium of AA Ponte Preta is named after Moysés Lucarelli (1900–1978), a great sponsor of the club and initiator and organizer of the construction. It is one of the few stadiums in Brazil that was built by the club's fans. After the building was completed, Lucarelli initially did not want the stadium to be named after him. But during a trip to Argentina , the Ponte Preta stadium was named Estádio Moisés Lucarelli .

future plans

AA Ponte Preta plans to build a new stadium in Campinas in the future. It will be named Arena Ponte Preta and offer space for around 30,000 people. It is not yet known when construction work on the new stadium project will start.
