Pedro Tonon Geromel (born September 21, 1985 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian soccer player . He plays in the position of a defender .
Career
Brazil
Geromel started his football career in Brazil at Palmeiras São Paulo .
Portugal
For the 2003/04 season he moved from the youth of the Brazilian club Palmeiras São Paulo to Portugal to GD Chaves . In 2005/06 he moved to Vitória Guimarães . In 2007/08 he reached third place in the SuperLiga with his club as a newcomer . There he was voted the best player in the league.
1. FC Cologne
In the summer of 2008, the right-footer moved to the German first division promoted 1. FC Cologne . There he received a four-year contract until 2012. During the summer break of 2009, the contract was extended for another two years until 2014. On July 25, 2011, Geromel was chosen by head coach Ståle Solbakken as the new team captain , because, according to Solbakken, he is the focus of the team and embodies the overall sporting concept of 1. FC Köln. After a tear on the outer meniscus in the 4-1 derby win against Bayer 04 Leverkusen on September 17, 2011, he was operated on and was out for seven weeks. On November 5, 2011 (12th matchday) he made his comeback against Werder Bremen .
RCD Mallorca
After the relegation of FC from the Bundesliga at the end of the 2011/12 season , Geromel received the clearance to change clubs. For the 2012/13 season he switched to RCD Mallorca on loan for three years . At the same time, he extended his contract in Cologne until June 30, 2016. The reason for the loan was the financial situation of RCD Mallorca, which could not have afforded the transfer. He scored his first goal in the Primera División on the 23rd matchday in the 91st minute of the game against Osasuna to make it 1-1.
Return to Brazil
On January 1, 2014 Geromel was awarded to Grêmio Porto Alegre in Brazil . Grêmio secured a purchase option that was used on December 30, 2014. His contract runs until 2019.
National team
Geromel was nominated in early September 2016 to replace the injured Rodrigo Caio for the qualifying games for the 2018 World Cup against Ecuador and Colombia . He finally made his debut for the national team on January 26, 2017 in a 1-0 win in a friendly against Colombia . He played for the entire season.
Private
Geromel also has Italian nationality because of an Italian grandfather .
With his charity project “Meio Campo” he would like to contribute to giving children “a center circle in life”. Meio Campo supports various organizations that are committed to helping children and young people.
