draw
The draws for the games in the qualification and group stages took place on December 21, 2016 at the CONMEBOL Convention Center in Luque (Paraguay) . The teams were seeded in the Copa Libertadores according to their CONMEBOL ranking. Three factors were taken into account:
- Performance over the past 10 years, taking into account Copa Libertadores results for the period 2007-2016
- Historical coefficient, taking into account the Copa Libertadores results for the period 1960–2006
- National championship with bonus points to national champions of the last 10 years
The first and second qualifying rounds and the group stage were drawn. No draw was made for the third round of qualification, the pairings were determined in advance. The numbers in brackets are the result of the CONMEBOL ranking.
First qualifying round draw
For the first qualifying round, six teams were drawn in three pairings:

Second qualifying round draw

mode
If there was a tie in the group stage, the goal difference was decisive for progress, then the number of goals scored, then the number of goals scored away . If these are also the same, the lot decided. In the knockout rounds, the away goal rule also applied in the event of a tie in points and goals. If their number is the same, a penalty shoot-out immediately followed without extra time .
qualification
The qualifying round took place in three stages. The first team had home rights in the first leg, the second in the second leg.

2nd qualifying round
The second qualifying round matches took place between January 31 and February 9, 2017.
Due to a problem with a flight, the second leg between CD El Nacional and Atlético Tucumán started an hour and a half late. The flight from Atlético Tucumán from Argentina to Quito was not allowed to start due to a lack of approval. The team then took another flight later to avoid disqualification. Even though their delay was more than the allowed 45 minutes, the Conmebol let the game take place. However, the players did not have their equipment with them, it was in the aircraft that had not taken off. El Nacional offered them its third jerseys. Atlético, however, opted for the jerseys of the Argentine U20 national team, which was in town for the U-20 South American Football Championship 2017 . The players also had to borrow their shoes.

Final round
draw
The first and second in each group qualified for the round of 16. The regulations from the round of 16 onwards were changed compared to previous years. So far, the first and second group have been determined. The games were not drawn, but determined by a seeding list. The criteria were the points scored and the goal difference from the group stage. The eight group winners were given start numbers 1 to 8 according to their ranking, so the best group winner received 1, the second-best group winner received 2, etc. The eight runners-up were given start numbers 9 to 16. In the round of 16 then play 1 - 16, 2 - 15, 3 - 14 ..., so the best group first against the worst group second etc.
Starting this season, the pairings of the group first and second will be drawn. The draw took place on June 14, 2017.
