Jorge Almirón (born June 19, 1971 in San Miguel , Gran Buenos Aires ) is a former Argentine soccer player who mainly played in midfield and has been a coach since the end of his active career. Because of its dark skin color, Almirón is also known by the nickname El Negro (dt. The black ).
Player career
Almirón began his professional career in 1991 at his hometown club CA San Miguel in the Tercera Categoría of the Argentine league system. In 1994 he moved to the CD Santiago Wanderers in the neighboring country Chile and won the championship of the second-class Primera B with the club in 1995 , whereby the promotion to the first division succeeded.
From the summer of 1997 until the end of his active career in the 2008/09 season, Almirón worked exclusively in Mexico , where he was under contract with Atlas Guadalajara for the first two and a half years . For the second half of the 1999/00 season he moved to Monarcas Morelia and immediately won the Mexican football championship with the club in the 2000 winter tournament , which was followed by two runners-up in the 2002/03 season .
After two seasons at Club León , which is playing in the second division , Almirón returned to the first division, where he played for Gallos Blancos in the 2006/07 season . He then played again for Club León and won with him the second division championship of the Clausura in 2008, but failed with the Esmeraldas in the promotion finals against Indios de Ciudad Juarez . In the following season 2008/09 he let his active career end with the Dorados de Sinaloa , which he was also coaching at the time.
Coaching career
He then coached the Mexican second division club CD Veracruz and UAT Correcaminos before taking on the post of assistant coach at his former club Atlas Guadalajara in October 2012 at CSD Defensa y Justicia for the first time in his home country. His activity there ended in June 2013 and he took over the training management at Club Tijuana until November 2013 . From December 2013 to July 2014 he trained Godoy Cruz . Immediately afterwards, Almirón was head coach of the traditional Argentinian club CA Independiente until May 2015 . From December 2015 to December 2017 he worked in this role at CA Lanús . For the 2018 season he was introduced as the new coach at the Colombian top club Atlético Nacional from Medellín .
