The Club Social y Deportivo Dorados de Sinaloa , also known as Dorados de Sinaloa or Dorados for short , is a Mexican football club from Culiacan that was founded on June 19, 2003.

history

The club was named after the Dorado (sea bream or sea bream ), a typical species of fish on the Sinaloa coast. These fish are considered to be strong fighters and pack animals that support each other; with which they embody the club philosophy of the Dorados de Sinaloa in an ideal way .

With the support of the federal government of Sinaloa , the club acquired the license of the previous second division club Deportivo Cihuatlán in the summer of 2003 in order to play in its place in the Primera División 'A' in the future . In order to be suitable for the second division, a stadium with a capacity of 13,000 seats was built in less than three months. It was named after Carlos Gonzáles who made the property available. The stadium was later expanded to a capacity of 20,000.

The still young club won the Apertura 2003 straight away and also made it to the finals in the subsequent Clausura 2004. If he had won this, the Dorados would have been promoted directly to the first division as winners of both half-series of the 2003/04 season. However, they lost the Clausura finals against Club León with 0: 1 and 1: 1, so that they had to face the same opponent again in the promotion finals . But this time the Dorados did better, prevailed with 2: 2 and 2: 1 and after only one year of existence made the leap into the football club. Thus for the first time first division football came to Sinaloa.

The club also did well in the Primera División . After finishing the Apertura 2004 with only 16 points as one of the three teams with the weakest points, he already achieved a positive balance in the Clausura 2005: seven wins were compared to only five defeats. Nevertheless, it was only enough for fourth place in his group, so that the play-offs ( called Liguilla in Mexico ) were missed.

After the Apertura 2005 finished fourth again in the group, the Dorados climbed to third place in the group in the Clausura 2006. However, they were not entitled to participate in the Liguilla because the team had to relegate due to the complicated calculation process.

After the preliminary group of the Apertura 2006 in the second division ended only with the 10th place (of 12 participants), the Dorados managed to win the Clausura 2007. But in the promotion finals they were somewhat unhappy with 1: 1 and 2: 3 against the Puebla FC .

Dorados de Sinaloa was the first club to win the Copa México after its reintroduction in the Apertura 2012. In the final, the second division team prevailed 5: 4 on penalties against league rivals UAT Correcaminos after they were tied 2: 2 after regular time.
