Potros de la UAEM is a Mexican soccer team from the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México in Toluca , the capital of the state of México .

history

As early as the 1970s, a UAEM soccer team was represented for a total of four years in the Segunda División , which was still second-rate at the time . The team, then known as Moscos de la UAEM, played there from 1972 until they were relegated in 1974 and returned directly to the Segunda División by winning the then third-rate Tercera División in the 1974/75 season. However, because it lacked support from the local audience, which is clearly inclined to the Diablos Rojos , as well as lack of financial means, the football team was withdrawn from the professional league .

In 1990 the university began a new attempt and registered the team, now playing under the name Potros de la UAEM , in the Tercera Division , which is now only fourth class.

Nine years later, a 3-2 win against the Huracanes de Tlapacoyan (1: 1 first leg) in front of 15,000 spectators in the Alberto Chivo Córdoba university stadium led to promotion to the now third-rate Segunda Division, in which the Potros have been represented since then.
