Les Lazarowitz

Leslie "Les" Lazarowitz (born October 2, 1941 , † January 6, 2017 in Florida ) was an American sound engineer .

Life

Lazarowitz began his career in 1971, his feature film debut was Alan Arkin's black comedy Little Murderers . At Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather , he worked as a sound assistant the following year . In 1973 he worked with Robert De Niro for the first time on The Last Game . Another six films followed by 1999, including the Taxi Driver directed by Martin Scorsese , Wie ein Wilder Stier and King of Comedy . For Saturday Night Fever he was nominated for the BAFTA Film Award in the category Best Sound in 1979 . In 1981 he was nominated for the first Oscar in the category Best Sound for Like a Wild Bull , followed by a second Oscar nomination for Tootsie in 1983 . Lazarowitz, however, came away empty-handed at all of these awards.

Lazarowitz withdrew from the film business in 1999. He died in 2017 at the age of 75.
