Renato Portaluppi (born September 9, 1962 known as Renato Gaúcho in Guaporé , Rio Grande do Sul , Brazil ) is a Brazilian football coach . He was one of the most famous football players in the 1980s and 1990s.

Career

Renato Gaúcho began his career at Gremio Porto Alegre , where he won the Copa Libertadores and the World Cup final against Hamburger SV 2-1 in 1983 . He scored both goals, the decisive one in the third minute of extra time, which is why he is still revered by the fans of Gremio as one of the greatest heroes in the club's history.

After strong performances Renato was called up in the Brazilian national team for the World Cup in Mexico in 1986 , but flew before the team's departure due to indiscipline from the Seleção.

In 1986 he moved to Flamengo Rio de Janeiro . Other stations in his career were AS Roma , Botafogo FR , Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte , Atlético Mineiro , Fluminense Rio de Janeiro and Bangu .

During his active career, Renato was employed several times as an interim trainer at Fluminense in 1996. Renato's first station as a professional trainer was also there. In his third and most successful tenure as coach of Grêmio, he won the Copa Libertadores 2017 and the Copa do Brasil 2016, among others . He previously won the Copa do Brasil 2007 with Fluminense Rio de Janeiro.
