Tornquist is the capital of the Partido Tornquist of the same name in the southeast of the province of Buenos Aires in Argentina with 11,759 inhabitants (2001, Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Censos (INDEC)). It was founded in 1883 by Ernesto Tornquist , an industrialist. Originally the city was called Las Sierras , but in 1910 it was renamed Tornquist in honor of its founder.

Only a few kilometers east of Tornquist is the Sierra de la Ventana , a low mountain range with peaks up to 1200 meters. Much of this sierra is under nature protection; the area is called Parque Provincial Ernesto Tornquist .
