Edílson Mendes Guimarães , called Edílson , (born July 27, 1986 in Nova Esperança ) is a Brazilian football player . The right footer is used as a right or left defender.

Career

society

Edílson started his career in the youth team of Avaí FC . He joined Atlético Mineiro in 2005 via a stopover at EC Vitória . With the club he played his first game in the top Brazilian division . On October 5, 2005, he was substituted on for George Lucas in the game against Paraná Clube in the 74th minute . Edílson scored his first goal in the league the next day. In the away game at Flamengo Rio de Janeiro on October 12, he scored in the 76th minute to make it 1: 2.

At the end of the season Edílson went back to Avaí for two years. After he was employed by various clubs in 2008, AA Ponte Preta got a contract with Edílson from 2009 . With this he played in the Campeonato Paulista and the Série B . The start at the club was overshadowed by problems. At the beginning of May of that year he appeared drunk with two teammates for training. In 2010 Edílson started with Ponte Preta in the national championship, but moved to the Série A Klub Grêmio Porto Alegre in February .

To win the Campeonato Gaúcho by Gremio, he contributed one goal in ten games. With Grêmio Edílson played his first game at international club level. In the Copa Sudamericana 2010 he made his debut on August 5, 2010 against the Goiás EC . After Edílson first played a game for Gremio in league competition in 2011, he was loaned out to league rivals Athletico Paranaense for the rest of the season . After playing for Gremio again in 2012, he was signed to the Botafogo FR from Rio de Janeiro in early 2013 . With the club he was able to win the state championship that year.

At the end of the 2014 season , Botafogo had to relegate to Série B as ninth in the table. Due to differences of opinion with the club management of Botafogo, Edílson moved to Corinthians São Paulo and remained in the Série A. At the end of the 2015 season , he was able to celebrate winning the championship with the team . In 2016 Edílson started with Corinthians in the state championship and the Copa Libertadores . At the start of the league , he moved back to Gremio Porto Alegre. The contract has a term of three years.

On December 29, 2017, the change from Edílson to Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte was announced. The contract had a term of three years. With the club he was able to win the Copa do Brasil in 2018 . At the beginning of June 2020, Cruzeiro prematurely terminated the contract with Edílson.

National team

In 2004 Edílson was appointed to the squad of the U-20 team for participation in the Milk Cup . But he did not take part in the trip.
