Copa Sudamericana 2010
The Copa Sudamericana 2010 was the 9th staging of the second most important South American football competition for club teams, which was also known as the "Copa Nissan Sudamericana" due to the last sponsorship of the automobile manufacturer Nissan . This season, 39 teams from the 10 member associations of CONMEBOL , including defending champions Liga de Quito, took part as the number of participants per country (except Argentina and Brazil) increased from two to three. As in the previous year, teams from the CONCACAF area did not start. As before, the competition was held in the second half of the year. It started on August 3, 2010 with the 1st round and ended on December 8, 2010 with the final second leg in Avellaneda.
mode
Due to the increased number of participants, there were again two rounds before the round of 16. As usual, the competition was held from the first round to the final in a pure knockout system with a return leg. In the event of a tie for points and goals , the away goal rule applies . If the number of goals scored away from home is the same, a penalty shoot-out follows immediately after the second leg . The away goals rule does not apply in the final. If the goal difference is the same after the first and second leg, there is extra time and only then, if necessary, a penalty shoot-out. The participants from Argentina and Brazil only started in the second round, defending champion Liga de Quito only in the second round.
1 round
Participants were two teams each from eight countries in South America (except Argentina and Brazil). The first legs took place between August 3 and 24, the second legs between August 10 and September 2, 2010.
