history

ACD Lara was founded in 2006 as Guaros FC . The newly founded association was placed in the second Venezuelan Football League, the Segunda División, and immediately reached in the first season promotion to the Primera División , the top division in football in Venezuela . For the 2007/08 first division season, Guaros de Lara FC signed the former Colombian goalkeeper René Higuita , who participated in the 1990 World Cup , after he was persuaded to make a comeback three years after his last engagement. With Higuita in goal, Lara was able to occupy a very good fifth place in the table in the final statement and narrowly missed qualifying for the Copa Sudamericana 2009 . The following season was not quite as successful for Guaros FC and ended with twelfth place in the overall table, while the Torneo Apertura ended in last place and relegation could only be prevented by a strong Clausura season.

For the 2009/10 season the club changed its name and was called Club Deportivo Lara , or CD Lara for short . Under the new name things immediately went better and the first promotion for the Copa Sudamericana was achieved in 2009/10 with fourth place in the overall table . At the 2010 tournament , however, they failed in the first round to Independiente Santa Fe from Colombia . Overall, the entire 2010/11 season did not go particularly well for CD Lara, even in the league it was only enough for thirteenth place. But in the following season Deportivo Lara became the most successful team in the Primera División. Both in the Torneo Apertura and in the Torneo Clausura they were in first place in the table after all match days. The Apertura ended with a lead of five points over FC Caracas , although it should be noted that CD Lara did not suffer a single defeat during the entire first half of the season. Once they were defeated in the second half of the season, which they ended with a clear eight point lead over the second-placed AC Mineros de Guayana . As a result, CD Lara was also in first place in the overall table for the 2011/12 season and was able to celebrate the first title in the club's history. Another characteristic of CD Lara’s championship season is that the club had a coach, Eduardo Saragó, who was not even 30 years old, making him one of the youngest coaches in world football.

In 2012, Club Deportivo Lara changed its name to Asociación Civil Deportivo Lara .
