history
Zulia FC was founded on January 16, 2005 in Maracaibo, the capital of the Venezuelan state of Zulia in the northwest of the country near the border with Colombia . The Venezuelan Football Association classified the club in the fourth-class Tercera División, which was won in the first season. After promotion to the third division in the 2006/07 season, they were the best team there and only two years after the club was founded, they made the leap to the Segunda División, the second highest division in Venezuelan football. Zulia FC was able to continue its series of promotions in the second division and after a first place in the second division season 2007/08, the club qualified for the first time for the first-class Primera División . In the Torneo Apertura, the club made positive headlines again when they finished fourth, just six points behind champions Deportivo Italia . The Clausura then did not go quite as well and was finished with eighth place, which resulted in fifth place in the final table for Zulia FC. The following season was almost equally successful for the young club. In the Apertura, Zulia came eighth, in the Clausura fifth. In the table as a whole, this resulted in a good sixth place, although for the second time in a row they missed participation in the Copa Sudamericana by only a few points. In the 2010/11 season, however, things went downhill for Zulia FC. A tenth place in the Apertura was followed by a disappointing fifteenth place in the Clausura and since then they have been fighting against relegation.
