Aragua Fútbol Club is a Venezuelan football club from Maracay . The club was founded in 2002 and plays its home games at the Estadio Olímpico Hermanos Ghersi Páez , which can seat 14,000 spectators. Aragua FC has never been a Venezuelan football champion and currently plays in the Primera División , the top division in Venezuela .
history
Aragua FC was founded on August 20, 2002 and classified by the Venezuelan Football Association in the Segunda División, the second Venezuelan football league. After two seasons in the second highest division, the club succeeded in the 2004/05 season the first promotion to the Primera División , from which they have not been relegated to this day. They are currently in the midfield of the Primera División, in the past season (2009/10) an eleventh place in the overall table was achieved, while the FC Caracas won the championship in a final against Deportivo Táchira FC .
Aragua FC celebrated the greatest success in the club's history in the 2007 season when they won the Copa Venezuela, the national cup competition. In the final, Unión Atlético Maracaibo were defeated using the away goals rule after the first leg in Maracay went 0-0 and Aragua FC drew 2-2 in the second leg. By winning the cup, Aragua FC qualified for the Copa Sudamericana 2008 . In the second round, for which one was automatically qualified, one failed already at the Mexican representative Deportivo Guadalajara , who reached the semi-finals in the further course of the tournament and only there failed at the later winner SC Internacional from Porto Alegre .
