Copa Sudamericana

The Primera División is the top football league in Venezuela . It was founded in 1921 and has been a professional league since 1957. It is organized by the Venezuelan Football Association.

mode

In 2015 the championship was changed back to the old format, which lasted until 1986. For the changeover period, the so-called Torneo Adecuación will take place once in 2015 , in which a single round in the mode everyone against everyone is played. The best eight teams then qualify for the final rounds, in which the champions are determined in the knockout system . The bottom of the table is relegated directly, the penultimate plays relegation games.

From 2016, the 20 teams will again take part in Apertura and Clausura and the champion will then be determined in a playoff between the winners from Apertura and Clausura.

International qualification

  • The leaders of Apertura and Clausura take part in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores .
  • The team with the most points from the overall table (Apertura and Clausura added together, excluding the respective winners) takes part in the qualification of the Copa Libertadores.
  • The team with the second most points from the overall table (Apertura and Clausura added together, excluding the respective winners) takes part in the Copa Sudamericana together with the cup winners .
  • The next best eight teams that have not yet qualified play the third and last participant in the Copa Sudamericana in the so-called Sudamericana series
  • If the same team Apertura and Clausura wins, they and the team with the second most points will take part in the Copa Libertadores, the team with the third most points in the qualification for the Copa Libertadores. The team with the fourth most points takes part in the Copa Sudamericana.

descent

The two teams with the fewest points (Apertura and Clausura added together) are relegated to the second division.
