The Dutch Reformed Church

The Moederkerk is the Dutch Reformed Church in the South African city of George . It was built in the Cape Dutch style between 1830 and 1842 .

In the following years the building underwent several changes. The bare ground was replaced by a plank floor in 1873 and the thatched roof by slate shingles in 1880. In 1904 galleries were drawn in on the east and west sides.

The church's bell tower collapsed completely in 1905 and was rebuilt the following year. When it was rebuilt, it was fitted with a clock.
