geography
In the west and north, the state is almost completely bordered by the Orinoco , on which the two largest cities Ciudad Bolívar and Ciudad Guayana are located. Other major rivers are the Río Caroní and Río Caura , both tributaries of the Orinoco. On the Río Caroní is the Guri reservoir , the seventh largest reservoir in the world.
Agriculture and cattle breeding are practiced along the Orinocos, the west and south-west of Bolívar are hardly inhabited and characterized by dense wet and cloud forests .
The east and south-east are characterized by the mountainous country of Guayana , one of the oldest geological formations in the world, which is known in particular for its table mountains ( tepuis ) and is characterized in the lower elevations by savannahs and grasslands as well as tropical rainforest . A large part is protected by the Canaima National Park , which has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO .
