The Río Caura or Caura is a right tributary of the Orinoco in Venezuela .

geography

The Río Caura has its origin in the extreme southwest of the state of Bolívar near the border with Brazil in the Jaua-Sarisariñama National Park with its 2300 m high Table Mountain . The water of the Río Caura covers a distance of about 723 km to its confluence with the Orinoco. Its most important tributary is the Río Erebato, which is also very rich in water at the confluence with the Caura. At the mouth of the Caura near Musinacio it has a width of 1500 m and a discharge of about 3000 m³ / s. This makes it the second largest tributary of the Orinoco after the Río Caroní .

The river is navigable from the Orinoco 257 km to Salto Pará . In the vicinity of this place there is a waterfall formed by two branches of the river, which is particularly impressive not because of its height, but because of the large masses of water. The Río Caura, like the Upper Orinoco, the Río Caroní and the Río Ventuari, is a black water river .
