Los Roques

The Dependencias Federales (German Federal Territories ) is a federal territory in Venezuela . With the exception of Corocoro , Farallón Centinela and the islands belonging to the state of Nueva Esparta , they include most of the offshore islands and islets in the Caribbean and the Gulf of Venezuela. The islands with a total area of ​​342 km² are hardly populated or even uninhabited. Official sources give the permanent population of approx. 3,000 inhabitants, another approx. 100 people from Isla Margarita inhabit the islands temporarily to fish. The mayor of the Venezuelan capital Caracas is responsible for the local administration.

The Dependencias Federales consist of about 600 islands and islets. Many of them have an area of ​​less than 10,000 m² and are often just rocks that rise out of the sea. The largest of these islands is La Tortuga, which occupies almost half of the total area of ​​the administrative area.
